Solar PV systems and solar thermal systems are two different types of technology that both play the same role in absorbing the sun’s energy and turning it into useable energy. However, the type of energy that these systems create is used for entirely different things. Read more about the similarities and differences between solar PV and solar thermal systems below:

Solar PV systems

Solar PV systems are a much newer technology than solar thermal systems. These systems make use of solar panels with silicon-based technology to create electricity from sunlight. The panels are highly durable and can last for many years if they are taken care of appropriately. Solar PV systems are used to power many homes and businesses, using their energy to switch on lights, keep various appliances running and so many other energy needs. However, some people find solar PV systems quite expensive, making them rethink the solar path, but these systems aren’t the only green energy solution on the market.

Solar thermal systems

Solar thermal systems are a lot older than solar PV systems. While they may not be able to power as much as solar PV systems can, these thermal systems are incredibly useful in converting the sun’s energy into heat. Those who find solar PV systems too expensive will often turn to solar thermal systems as their option for going green. These systems take up a lot less space though, and they are small, however, can efficiently heat up the water in homes and businesses.
